Iowa Cubs News Release

ROUND ROCK, TX - The Iowa Cubs (33-24) dropped a 2-1 contest to the Round Rock Express (34-22), Saturday at Dell Diamond.

Adbert Alzolay dominated the Express as he allowed just one hit and one walk through 6.0 shutout frames. The righty retired the last 13 batters he faced as he used just 79 pitches in the outing.

Iowa plated its run in the fourth as it took advantage of a Phillip Evans leadoff walk. Robel Garcia walked to put Evans into scoring position and Evans put himself 90 feet from home as he tagged up and advanced on a Taylor Davis fly out to right. Jacob Hannemann pushed the run across with a sacrifice fly to give Iowa the lead until the eighth.

After rehabbing Tony Barnette pitched a flawless seventh with one strikeout, Randy Rosario took over and served up a home run to AJ Reed on the first pitch he threw. Rosario allowed two more base runners but got out of the inning with no further damage as he left with a 1-1 game.

The tie held through nine to force the game to extras. Iowa pushed its free runner from second to third, but was unable to break the stalemate. Round Rock capitalized as a groundout moved its runner up and a Lorenzo Quintana single walked it off for Round Rock.

Postgame Notes:

- In his last three starts, Adbert Alzolay holds a 1.06 ERA (2ER/17.0IP) with six hits, two walks and 23 strikeouts.

- Carlos Gonzalez went 0-4 with one strikeout in his I-Cubs debut.

- Phillip Evans drew a pair of walks to tie Dixon Machado with a league-leading 35 free passes.

- Iowa is 1-2 in extra-inning games this season. All have come on the road.

Iowa finishes the road trip with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch at Round Rock tomorrow. RHP Colin Rea (6-1, 2.77) is slated to face RHP Cy Sneed (3-5, 4.11). Follow the action on AM 940, TuneIn Radio or www.iowacubs.com.
