Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Memphis, Tenn. - A four-run fifth inning kick-started a stretch of seven unanswered runs scored by the Oklahoma City Dodgers Saturday night and Dodgers pitchers allowed just one hit over the final five innings in an 8-1 win against the Memphis Redbirds at AutoZone Park.

The win gave the Dodgers four straight victories for the first time this season and pushed Oklahoma City to a 3-0 lead in their current series with the Redbirds.

The Dodgers (21-34) connected on six extra-base hits, including two home runs, Saturday night as they scored six or more runs for a fourth consecutive game for the first time this season.

Meanwhile, five Dodgers pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts for their second-highest strikeout total of the season and highest since racking up 18 K's April 6 against San Antonio.

The Dodgers took the first lead of the game.

Memphis starting pitcher Daniel Ponce de Leon had retired the first seven OKC batters he faced before Rocky Gale connected on a solo homer out to left-center field for a 1-0 Dodgers lead in the third inning. The home run was Gale's first of the season on OKC's first hit of the game.

The Redbirds (23-34) quickly answered in the bottom of the frame when Edmundo Sosa led off with a solo homer out to left field to tie the score, 1-1.

Memphis went on to load the bases with two outs in the fourth inning, but Ponce de Leon struck out as White escaped the jam.

The Dodgers tacked on four runs in their next at-bat in the fifth inning.

With one out, Jake Peter drew a walk before Angelo Mora followed with a double. Gale came up to the plate next and brought both runners home when he sent a two-run double to right field for a 3-1 Oklahoma City lead as Gale drove in the Dodgers' first three runs of the night.

Later with two outs, Drew Jackson lined a two-run homer out to right-center field for his fourth home run of the season and a 5-1 Oklahoma City advantage.

The first two Dodgers batters of the sixth inning reached on a walk and hit by pitch and Angelo Mora later brought home OKC's sixth run of the night with a sacrifice fly.

The Dodgers boosted their lead to 8-1 in the seventh inning via RBI doubles by Zach Reks and Shane Peterson.

Dodgers starting pitcher Mitchell White (1-3) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run and four hits with three walks and tying his season high with nine strikeouts. He earned his first Triple-A win in his fourth start of the season with OKC.

Dodgers relievers Caleb Ferguson, Adam McCreery, Stetson Allie and Justin Grimm combined to hold the Redbirds to one hit and scoreless over the final 3.1 innings with seven strikeouts.

De Leon (4-4) was charged with the loss for Memphis, allowing six runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

The Dodgers have a chance for their first series sweep when they also wrap up their 14-game road trip with a 2:05 p.m. game Sunday against Memphis at AutoZone Park.
