Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Casey Crosby, Lester Oliveros and Chance Ruffin combined to three-hit and shut out the Altoona Curve, 5-0, on Saturday night at Blair County Ballpark. Crosby (1-1) tossed a season-high seven innings for his first Double-A win.
The Curve had an opportunity to jump on the scoreboard early against the âWolves in the second when Jeremy Farrell singled with one away and then moved to second on a Crosby wild pitch. The 22-year-old struck out Tony Sanchez and then induced a fielder's choice groundout off the bat of Miles Durham to end the inning and the threat.
In the third, Altoona got a leadoff single from Eric Fryer and Jose Hernandez walked to place two on with no one out, but Crosby retired the next three men he faced in order to end the inning.
Erie got to starter Jeff Locke (1-3) in the second after a four-pitch first inning from Locke. Audy Ciriaco doubled to begin the frame and he eventually came around to score on a Michael Bertram single to put Erie up, 1-0. Deik Scram also tried to score on the same play but he was cut down at the plate by Fryer from right field.
All four of the Erie runs the rest of the way came unearned to Locke as the SeaWolves scored three unearned in the fourth and one more in the sixth. Crosby retired 11 in a row from the third inning until a Quincy Latimore single with two down in the sixth. Altoona had one baserunner the rest of the way.
Farrell extended his hitting streak to six games with his single and he finished the game 1-4.
The shutout loss for Altoona is the first of the season.
