Ramirez, R-Phils Win Fourth-Straight Game Saturday
April 30, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release
(Reading, PA) -- J.C. Ramirez is quickly making a name for himself around the baseball world.
Ramirez (4-0, 1.03) allowed one unearned run over six innings, Matt Rizzotti had two RBIs, and the R-Phils beat the Portland Sea Dogs 5-2 on Saturday evening in front of 8,012 people at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The 22-year-old right-hander won his fourth-straight start of the season and was once again solid on the hill. He allowed six hits and one unearned run on the evening, and has now allowed just three earned runs in 26.1 innings pitched this year. The Nicaraguan native lowered his ERA to 1.03 on the season, and now leads the Eastern League with four wins. He's won all four of the games he's started, and is now 2-0 at home this year.
Reading pitchers allowed 12 hits to the Sea Dogs, but were effective in getting outs on the evening. Reliever B.J. Rosenberg allowed one run over 1.2 innings pitched, and Jake Diekman got the final out in the eighth to keep the R-Phils on top of Portland. Justin De Fratus, a member of the Phillies 40-man roster, allowed two hits in the ninth, but got out of dodge to earn his second save of the season.
Offensively for Reading (15-7), Rizzotti went 1-3 with two RBIs, while Cody Overbeck added his league-leading 20th RBI of the season. The R-Phils stole four bases on the night, including one by Michael Spidale, who now has five on the year.
Reading will go for the three-game series sweep on Sunday afternoon. R-Phils RHP Austin Hyatt (2-1, 3.00 ERA) gets the nod for the club in game three. Hyatt, a native of Atlanta, GA, has yet to win a game at home this season, as both of his wins have come on the road (2-1, 3.60 ERA). Originally selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 15th round of the 2009 draft, Hyatt, 24, was the Florida State League Most Valuable pitcher last year as a member of the Clearwater Threshers.
Taking the ball for the Sea Dogs in Sunday's finale will be RHP Michael Lee (1-1, 4.26 ERA). Lee, 24, won his last outing, which came back on April 26 against the Binghamton Mets. The Issaquah, WA native allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings to earn his first win of the 2011 season.
Coverage on ESPN Radio 1240 AM WIOV begins with the R-Phils pre-game show, which is set for 12:35 p.m. R-Phils play-by-play broadcaster Brian Seltzer will have the call with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m.
