New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Liam Hendriks hurled an impressive game and Yangervis Solarte led the offense as the Rock Cats downed Harrisburg, 5-2 on Saturday night.

Hendriks (2-1) limited the Senators to one run on four hits through 7 1/3 innings. He struck out a season-high nine batters.

The Rock Cats jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the second inning. Solarte led off the inning with a single to right field and Allan de San Miguel reached base on a one-out walk. Chris Cates followed with a sharply hit infield grounder that was fielded by second baseman Steve Lombardozzi whose only play was at first. The ball was mishandled by first baseman Bill Rhinehart, allowing Solarte to score the first run of the game. Steve Singleton added two more runs to the board when he laced a double - his second of the game - into right to knock in both runners for the 3-0 advantage.

Solarte finished the night with a game-high three hits, including an RBI double in the seventh inning that put the Rock Cats ahead, 4-0. Ray Chang added an RBI double to center in the inning.

The Senators lone run against Hendriks came in the eighth inning when Archie Gilbert opened the inning with a home run over the left field wall. Hendriks forced a groundout against the final batter he faced before he was lifted for Jake Stevens.

Stevens served up an RBI single to Chris Rahl in the ninth. Cole DeVries came on in relief to shut down the Senators from any further damage and pick up his team-best fourth save.

The Rock Cats pounded out 11 hits on the night. Singleton (2 doubles) and Solarte led the way. Evan Bigley also had a two-hit night. Harrisburg's Shairon Martis (0-1) allowed three runs - all unearned - on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out five.
