Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Brandon Moore came through with seven shutout innings as the B-Mets defeated the Akron Aeros 4-0 today at NYSEG Stadium to snap their four-game losing streak.
Moore was masterful in his fourth start of the season, allowing just two hits and racking up a season-high nine strike outs. The Indiana native did not allow more than one baserunner in any inning and retired the final seven batters he faced.
Binghamton got all the offense they needed in the second inning against Aeros starter Joe Gardner. The right-hander, pitching in his first game since April 13, allowed back-to-back singles to Eric Campbell and Raul Reyes, before Allan Dykstra supplied a sacrifice fly to left field for the early 1-0 lead.
In the third, the B-Mets loaded the bases, but were stymied as Paolo Espino relieved Gardner and struck out Dykstra to end the inning. Espino would retire seven B-Mets in a row before running into trouble in the sixth.
Eric Campbell led the frame off with a single, his third hit of the game. Raul Reyes followed by pushing a sacrifice bunt back to the mound. Espino went to second with the throw, but the Aeros could not complete the force out as Campbell slid in safely.
After Dykstra lined a single to center field to load the bases, Jean Luc Blaquiere picked up his first RBI of the season by getting with the first pitch he saw from Espino. Jordany Valdespin grounded into a double play to bring home a run and give the B-Mets a 3-0 lead after six.
In the eighth, Dykstra put a bow on a busy day by sending a ball deep over the right field fence for his first home run as a B-Met.
Manny Alvarez tossed the final two innings and locked down his first save of the season with Binghamton. He allowed two hits and notched one strikeout.
The B-Mets (7-12) will be back in action tomorrow against the Aeros (11-12) with first pitch set for 1:05pm. LHP Mark Cohoon will oppose RHP Austin Adams.
