Akron Aeros to Honor Veterans on Sunday, August 28

AKRON, OH - The Akron Aeros today announced that seven veterans from Summit and Stark County will be honored on the field prior to the game against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Sunday, August 28.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown helped the veterans and their families obtain the overdue and replacement medals, earned for exemplary service in World War II and the Vietnam War. General Dan Hahn, a retiree of the U.S. Army and resident of Akron, along with representatives from Sen. Brown's office, will present the seven veterans with medals commemorating their service. Don Plusquellic, the mayor of Akron, will also be in attendance for the pregame ceremony.

"Ohio's veterans made invaluable contributions to our fight for worldwide peace and democracy. Our state's service members have answered the call to action without delay throughout our nation's history," U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) said. "As a member of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, I'm honored to fight for Ohio and America's veterans by ensuring that they receive the benefits they so richly deserve. It is an honor to deliver medals to these Summit County veterans and their families today."

The following veterans will receive medals at Canal Park on Sunday, August 28:

*Mr. Orefolt's medals will be presented to his daughter Virginia Bishop and his granddaughter Kendra Love.

The Aeros will also honor the military in other facets on Sunday, August 28 including:

. "Welcome Home Event", presented by Cleveland VA - 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

o The first 500 veterans with a proof of service or military identification will receive a free ticket to Sunday's game and a Perfect Game Coupon, which is good for a hot dog, potato chips and soda. Visit the State Street entrance at Canal Park under Wing Warehouse for registration and check-in.

o Present your military or service identification and receive a free Miller High Life T-Shirt (while supplies last).
