PORTLAND, Maine - Altoona Curve outfielder Starling Marte has been named to the post-season Eastern League All-Star team, the league office announced earlier this afternoon. It is the first career post-season award for Marte as he continues his breakout 2011 campaign.

The 22-year-old Marte has had a standout year for the Curve in his first season in Double-A as he currently leads the team and the active members of the Eastern League with a .332 batting average entering play on Thursday night in Binghamton. His 161 hits pace the league as well and are just five behind the Curve franchise record for hits (166) in a single season set by Nate McLouth back in 2004.

He also ranks among the league leaders in runs scored (82, 2nd), total bases (243, 2nd), extra-base hits (53, 3rd), doubles (35, tied for 3rd), slugging percentage (.501, 6th), OPS (.868, 7th) triples (7, tied for 7th) and stolen bases (21, tied for 10th).

The Santo Domingo, D.R. native entered the 2011 campaign as the fourth-best prospect in the Pirates' organization according to Baseball America. This season Marte was selected to participate for the World squad in the XM Futures Game during this year's All-Star Festivities in Phoenix, Ariz. He was also selected an Eastern League mid-season All-Star and the E.L. Player of the Week for August 8-14th.

Marte has established new career highs this season with the Curve in games played, home runs, RBI, hits, doubles and triples.

Altoona travels to Binghamton, N.Y. tonight to take on the Binghamton Mets at 6:35 p.m. at NYSEG Stadium. RHP Matt McSwain (2-0, 3.94) will make the start for Altoona while RHP Jeurys Familia (4-3, 3.47) gets the Game 1 nod for the B-Mets.

Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
