New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Eastern League announced its 2011 Postseason All-Star Team this afternoon and New Britain Rock Cats Second Baseman, Yangervis Solarte, was among those named to the squad. The announcement was made earlier today at the League Offices in Portland, Maine.

A total of thirteen players were awarded spots on this elite Team and each was selected via confidential ballot submitted by League Managers and Coaches, as well as members of the print and electronic Media who regularly cover play in the 88-year-old baseball circuit.

24-year-old Yangervis Solarte, a native of Valencia, Venezuela, was signed by the Minnesota Twins as Free Agent in 2005. A talented all-around player, the switch-hitting Second Baseman was a particular offensive force for the 2011 Rock Cats as he has been among the League's Top 10 hitters since April and, at the time of today's announcement, was 6th overall with a Batting Average of .318 with 40 RBI and 55 Runs Scored. Included among his 129 Hits are 30 Doubles, 3 Triples, and 5 HRs. Appearing in 109 games for New Britain this year, the 5'11"/180-pounder was also a 2011 Mid-Season Eastern League All-Star and, on May 2nd, was named the historic League's Player of the Week. Despite celebrating his 24th birthday on July 7th, the sweet-swinging Solarte is in his sixth season of pro ball.

Previous New Britain players to be named Eastern League Postseason All-Stars include OF Ben Revere (2010), Utility Player Brian Dinkelman (2009) and RH Reliever Anthony (2009).
