Aerodynamics...
Here Comes the Rain...The Aeros and SeaWolves had their game suspended in the fourth inning last night after a 30-minute rain delay, and will continue the third outing in this four-game series today at Jerry Uht Park starting at 12:05 p.m. For the second time this season Akron's game with a close divisional rival has been suspended, as this game will continue in its original nine-inning format followed by a seven-inning game just like the doubleheader on May 28th against the Reading Phillies. The score is currently tied at 2-2, as CF Mickey Hall blasted his first home run of the season in the third and 1B Beau Mills supplied an RBI single in the fourth. Following a two-run home run by Erie slugger Brennan Boesch, the rain came down with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning and will be continued with RHP Carlton Smith on the mound for the Aeros.
Slugging Madness...In 13 games against Erie this season the long-ball has provided a huge disadvantage for Akron, as the first-place Aeros have mustered only seven home runs and 22 doubles for a .333 slugging percentage. Meanwhile, the second-place SeaWolves have 17 homers along with seven triples and 23 two-baggers for an impressive .473 slugging percentage. Erie now has 107 home runs on the season and is on pace for the most team home runs in the Eastern League since smacking 180 in 2004.
Did You Know...Akron now is 8-13 with a 4.47 team ERA in the month of July, and this recent cold streak especially against the SeaWolves has moved the Aeros eight games back of the Fort Wayne Tin Caps for the best record in professional baseball.
