Connecticut Defenders News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY- The Defenders (55-43) left a lasting impression in their final game of the regular season at NYSEG Stadium Thursday night as they fell 6-5 to Binghamton in the series finale in wild fashion.
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and the representing go ahead run ninety feet away, RHP-Waldis Joaquin's first pitch sailed wide of his catcher to the backstop allowing 1B-Ike Davis to score the game winning run and wrap up a series victory for the B-Mets.
Connecticut took an early lead right out of the shoot in the first inning with a 1B-Brett Pill solo homerun (10) over the leftfield wall.
The B-Mets stung the scoreboard in the third with a two out two run rally. Binghamton delivered four consecutive singles with back to back RBI singles by C-Josh Thole and Davis on the backend to capture their first lead at 2-1.
The Defenders blasted ahead in the fourth with back to back homeruns. SS-Sharlon Schoop cracked his first homer of the season with a two run shot over the left field wall only to be followed RHP-Tim Alderson's first professional homerun.
Binghamton chipped into the lead in the home half of the fourth before watching Brett Pill go yard for the second time in the fifth inning. Pill finished 4 for 5 with two RBI's and claimed sole possession as the E.L.'s RBI (69) leader.
Trailing 5-3, the B-Mets got a solo homer from LF-Lucas Duda in the sixth before mounting their comeback in the eighth.
LHP-Joe Paterson (2-4) blew the save and suffered the loss facing just four batters in the eighth inning. Defenders' starter RHP-Tim Alderson tossed seven strong innings allowing four earned runs off a season high ten hits and struck out three in the no decision.
Connecticut returns home tomorrow for a weekend series against their interstate rival New Britain. It'll be Friday Night Fireworks and fans can purchase tickets by calling the Defenders Box Office at (860)-887-7962 or online at ctdefenders.com.
