Aerodynamics...
One Bad Pitch...Things were looking pretty promising for the Aeros last night, as the club scored twice in the first and held a 3-0 lead midway through the game. Starter Kevin Dixon was rolling, allowing just one hit through the first five innings and at one point setting down a dozen B-Mets hitters in a row. The game turned on a dime in the top of the sixth however, as two singles and a fielder's choice put men on the corners with one away. Binghamton's Daniel Murphy fought a two-strike pitch into left field for an RBI single to get the Mets on the board, and Dixon then fell behind in the count 3-1 to Nick Evans. Forced to throw a fastball, Dixon grooved one that Evans promptly pounded over the wall in left-center to give Binghamton the lead for good.
Bullpen Shuffle...The Aeros announced roster moves three and four of the year today, as RHP Bubbie Buzachero was promoted to Class AAA Buffalo and RHP Scott Roehl took his place on the roster. Buzachero had appeared in four games with Akron, going 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA. He had allowed only one earned run in 4.1 innings while also picking up five strikeouts. Roehl made a pair of scoreless appearances with the Aeros last year but spent the bulk of the year in Kinston, where he went 4-0 with a 2.66 ERA and led the Carolina League with 24 saves. Roehl was also named to the year-end CL All-Star Team. He has previously appeared with the Aeros in both 2005 (0-1, 7.71 ERA in two games) and 2006 (0-0, 9.82 ERA in seven games). The native of Kenosha, WI was drafted by the Indians in the 10th round of the 2003 draft out of the University of Arkansas.
Streaks and Such...DH Michael Aubrey delivered a sacrifice fly in the first inning but was shutout the rest of way as his hitting streak ended at nine games last night. The nine-game run was surpassed only by the 10-game streak of Erie's Freddy Guzman this year. On the bright side, 3B Wes Hodges went 1-3 to extend his own hitting streak to six games, and he and OF Nathan Panther will both have the opportunity to extend their streaks to seven games tonight (Panther did not play last night).
Start Me Up...Speaking of Panther, he'll be in a somewhat unfamiliar role tonight as he hits leadoff for the Aeros. Panther has hit leadoff a whopping five times in the last two years; four times with Kinston last season and once with Akron in 2006. The last time he hit in the top spot on a consistent basis was in 2005, when he hit leadoff 36 times in 102 games for Kinston and eight times in 22 games for Akron.
Did You Know...The Aeros have come from behind in all four of their wins this year, yet are 0-2 when scoring first.
