Connecticut Defenders News Release
NORWICH, CT- Don't be alarmed if you're taking in a ballgame at Dodd Stadium and see a submarine barreling towards your seat. It may look imposing, but it's just the General Dynamics Electric Boat Submarine equipped with a t-shirt cannon.
The twenty-foot long submarine was fashioned in just two weeks by John Wilson of SignCraft. It features a 778 near the scope to signify General Dynamic's most recent project, "The New Hampshire," which is in development for the military. It also features a t-shirt cannon that can send any fan in the stadium home happy as the device has impressive range.
"We are proud of the military presence and submarine building heritage here in southeast Connecticut and are pleased about our partnership with General Dynamic celebrating that presence," said Defenders' General Manager Charlie Dowd. "The sub will bring more excitement to the ballpark and an enhanced experience for the fans."
The submarine will be the focal point for promotions at Dodd Stadium as a "Captain of the Game" will be named for every Defenders' home games. The "Captain of the Game" will sit in the perch of the sub and help fire the t-shirts at fans in between innings.
General Dynamics is a business leader in business aviation; land and expeditionary combat vehicles and systems, armaments, and munitions; mission-critical information systems and technologies, but what you might know them best for is shipbuilding and marine systems. General Dynamics has been building submarines for the U.S. Military for decades and has been a major sponsor of the Connecticut Defenders for several years.
The submarine will be revealed to fans during the next home stand against the Reading Phillies, starting Thursday, April 17th at 6:35pm as it will go through sea trials. A "Name the Sub" contest will also be open to the fans during the home stand as the official christening of the boat will take place on Friday, May 9th against the Binghamton Mets.
The Connecticut Defenders are the Double-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants and play all 71 of their home games at Dodd Stadium. For further information or tickets, call (860) 887-7962 or visit ctdefenders.com.
