RHP McCutchen strong in 4-0 Trenton win over Altoona

(Trenton, NJ)- RHP Dan McCutchen went seven shutout innings to help the Thunder defeat Altoona 4-0 on Tuesday night at Waterfront Park.

McCutchen (2-1) gave up only four hits and struck out four while walking only two in the win. In a scoreless game in the 4th inning, Trenton (7-6) plated the first run of the night off of Altoona starting pitcher Derek Hankins (0-1). After a walk to RF Jose Tabata, LF Colin Curtis delivered an RBI double to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Curtis now has 9 RBI to lead the Thunder. The Thunder increased the lead to 2-0 in the 5th inning, on an RBI double by SS Ramiro Pena. Pena has now been on-base in 9 of his 10 games played this season.

Hankins went five innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs. He struck out two and walked one. The Thunder capped off the scoring with two insurance runs in the 8th inning off of Altoona reliever Kevin Roberts. 1B Cody Ehlers hit a two-run double with the bases loaded to make it 4-0. Ehlers had two doubles in the game. Thunder reliever David Robertson worked the final two innings for his 1st save of the season. Robertson has tossed 9 scoreless innings this season in four appearances.

The series will wrap up tomorrow morning at 11:05 am with the rubber game of the three-game series. LHP Phil Coke (0-1, 5.00) will start for Trenton against Altoona RHP Jimmy Barthmaier (1-0, 4.50).
