Curve bats silenced by Trenton in 4-0 shutout loss

TRENTON, NJ- The Trenton Thunder stymied Altoona Curve bats with two stellar pitching performances as Dan McCutchen and David Robertson combined to hold Curve bats to just five hits en route to a 4-0 shutout at Waterfront Park Tuesday night.

McCutchen (2-1) pitched seven scoreless innings allowing just four hits and punching out four Curve batters. Robertson came in to scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth to notch his first save of the season.

Derek Hankins (0-2) went five innings surrendering single runs to Trenton in each the fourth and fifth inning. Hankins allowed an RBI double to Colin Curtis which brought home Jose Tabata to give the Thunder a 1-0 edge. The following frame, a run-scoring double by Ramiro Pena plated Kevin Russo to put Trenton up 2-0.

Dave Davidson pitched two scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh inning for Altoona, but in the eighth, Kevin Roberts walked four batters and allowed a two-run double to Cody Ehlers to give the Thunder a 4-0 advantage which proved to be the final score.

The Curve and Thunder will complete their three-game series Wednesday morning with an 11:05 a.m. first pitch. Altoona will send right-hander Jimmy Barthmaier (1-0, 4.50) to the mound against Trenton lefty Phil Coke (0-1, 5.00). Following Wednesday's contest, the Curve will return home to Blair County Ballpark to open a seven-game homestand Thursday evening. Erie and Akron will provide the opposition on the homestand, which runs thru next Wednesday.
