Ads Earn First Winning Streak Of Season

OVERALL...The Admirals enter this week's action with a 5-4-0-1 record and 11 points, good for a fifth place tie in the AHL's West Division. The Admirals have a light week on the schedule front with just two games, which are also the first two contests in a brief three-game homestand. The Admirals open the week by hosting future NHL Hall of Famer Chris Chelios and the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm and then finish the week up on Friday night at 7 against the Peoria Rivermen.

VS. CHICAGO...The Admirals host Chicago on Wednesday night in the second contest in the Amtrak Rivalry with the Wolves this season. The Ads topped the Wolves 3-2 in the first game of the year at the All-State Arena. Last year Milwaukee compiled a 6-2-0-2 record against their closest AHL opponent, with identical 3-1-0-1 records at the All-State Arena and the Bradley Center. The two squads have faced off 153 times in the regular season with the Ads recording a 92-51-1-8-11 record in those contests and a 55-26-1-3-6 mark at the BC. Out of those games 114 of them have been decided by just one or two goals and the Admirals have a 63-32-19 record in such contests.

VS. PEORIA...Milwaukee and Peoria face-off for the third time already this season on Friday night at the Bradley Center. The teams have split their first two games of the year with the Rivermen taking a 4-3 shoot-out win on October 9 and the Ads getting a 5-2 victory on October 14. Last year Milwaukee notched a 6-2 record against the Rivermen, including a perfect 4-0 mark in Milwaukee. In 36 contests since the Rivermen joined the American Hockey League, the Admirals have posted a 24-7-2-3 record with a 15-1-1-1 mark at the BC. The two team's squared-off in 158 games during their time in the IHL with the Ads notching an 80-66-3-2-7 record in those contests.

LAST WEEK...Milwaukee earned their first winning streak of the season last week after sweeping a home-and-home set against the Rockford IceHogs on Friday and Saturday. The Admirals started the week with a 2-0 loss to the Abbotsford Heat on Wednesday night at the Bradley Center. Milwaukee surrendered one goal in the first and second period and couldn't find a way to break Heat netminder Irving Leland, who stopped all 26 shots thrown his way. Then Friday night the Ads picked up second period goals from Mark Santorelli and Andreas Thuresson to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead and Mark Dekanich stood strong the rest of the way, turning aside 29 shots in the game to earn the victory. On Saturday in Rockford Cal O'Reilly broke a 1-1 tie with a power-play tally six minutes into the third to give the Admirals a lead they would not relinquish. Mark Matheson posted his first tally of the season, while Chet Pickard earned his first pro win.

MARK ONE IN THE WIN COLUMN...Admirals rookie goaltender Chet Pickard picked up the first win of his professional career on Saturday night, stopping 24 of 25 shots in the team's 2-1 win over the IceHogs in Rockford. A first-round draft pick of the Predators in 2006, the Winnipeg, MB native was selected as the WHL's Goalie of the Year last season after posting a 35-12-3 record to go along with a.921 save percentage and a 2.28 goals against average with the Tri-City Americans.

UP AND BACK...The Predators recalled forwards Peter Olvecky and Andreas Thuresson on Saturday morning and then reassigned them to Milwaukee that night. Both forwards helped the Predators to a 4-2 win over Dallas on Saturday night. The game was the first NHL contest for Thuresson, who saw 8:48 of ice time, and it was the first game as a Predator for Olvecky, who logged 7:53 on the ice. Olvecky has posted two goals, five assists and team high +4 rating in the Milwaukee's first nine games this year. Thuresson has five points in nine games for the Admirals in 2009-10, and scored the game-winning goal in Milwaukee's 2-1 victory against Rockford Friday night.

THE FIRST TIME...Former Admiral Mike Santorelli picked up his first NHL goal last Wednesday night when lit the lamp at the 6:03 mark of the second period. His marker tied the game at three, and helped lead to the Predators 4-3 over the Wild. While it doesn't count in the stats as a goal, Santorelli did provide the game-winning goal for Nashville in a shoot-out in their opening night win against Dallas. The Vancouver, BC native was dominant in four games with the Admirals this year, posting eight points, including a five-point night on October 16 at Abbotsford.

SLOW STARTERS...The Admirals have started games slowly this season, having allowed the first goal in eight out of their ten games and being outscored in the first period 10-4. The only two games this year when the Ads have lit the lamp first was October 14 in a 5-2 win at Peoria and Saturday night in Rockford. Last season Milwaukee was 18-16-1-2 when allowing the first goal, and an impressive 31-6-2-4 when scoring first.

SHOOT FOR THE STARS...Milwaukee has managed to put a lot of shots on goal this season, outshooting opponents in eight out of their ten games. The Admirals, who are averaging over 33 shots per game, hold a shot advantage in every period as well, outshooting foes 98-90 in the first, 121-90 in the second, and 96-84 in the third period. The 40 shots that the Ads registered on opening night in Chicago matched a season high for shots in a game from the 2008-09 campaign.

BACK AND FORTH...The recall of Thuresson and Olvecky brings to 11 the number of players who have made the trip between Nashville and Milwaukee this season. Cody Franson, Triston Grant, Ben Guite, Teemu Laakso, Cal O'Reilly, Dave Scatchard, Alexander Sulzer, Mike Santorelli, Ryan Jones, Olvecky, and THuresson have all seen action for both squads at this early stage of the year. To put that into perspective, in the previous two seasons combined there have been nine players who have skated for both the Ads and Preds.
