-Friday, November 6, 2009- Springfield Falcons (5-5-2-1) vs. Bridgeport Sound Tigers (7-6-0-0):
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Springfield Falcons will face off on Friday for the first of ten meetings between the two teams. This is the first year Bridgeport is back in the Atlantic Division, spending the past six seasons in the East Division. In the second year of existence for Bridgeport (2002-2003), the Sound Tigers and Falcons saw more of one another as they were both members of the same division. Last season, Bridgeport took the season series winning three of the four match ups between the teams, including a shootout win in Springfield. The lone Falcons win also came in a shootout victory in Springfield. It has been a rollercoaster season so far for the third place Sound Tigers. They started out the year winning their first four games, only by following that with four straight losses. Since then Bridgeport has won three of their last five games coming into Friday night's game. However, the Sound Tigers lost two of three games this past weekend, losing to Worcester and Providence, while defeating Portland with all three games being on the road. Leading Bridgeport this season has been center Greg Moore and left wing Trevor Smith each tallying five goals and four assists to lead the team with nine points each. The team leader in assists this season has been Andrew MacDonald with six assists in 13 games played. Bridgeport has had stellar goaltending play behind three different goalies. Nathan Lawson, Scott Munroe, and Mikko Koskinen have combined to post a 2.29 GAA and.925 save percentage while racking up 371 saves. Munroe has played the most games and minutes, but Lawson has posted the best numbers thus far with a 1.81 GAA and.944 save percentage in five games played. Munroe has played in six games recording a 2.63 GAA and.915 save percentage. Koskinen has a 2.45 GAA and.902 save percentage in two games. Before Friday night's game in Springfield, the Sound Tigers will host the Adirondack Phantoms on Wednesday, November 4. Following the Falcons game, Bridgeport will play two home games against Hartford on Saturday and Lowell on Sunday.
-Sunday, November 8, 2009- Springfield Falcons (5-5-2-1) at Portland Pirates (4-8-0-0):
The Falcons will travel to Portland, Maine to take on the Pirates on Sunday afternoon. This will be first meeting between the two teams since the Falcons Opening Night 5-2 win on October 3. The teams will face each other six more times after this meeting. In the first match up between the teams, the Falcons controlled the game from start to finish behind Liam Reddox (1 G, 1 A), Chris Minard (1 G, 1 A) and goalie Devan Dubnyk (31 saves on 33 shots). Leading the Pirates in the game was Marc-Andre Gragnani with two goals. Last season Portland went 6-2-1-1 against Springfield, with only one loss in five games at home. The Pirates have struggled this year going 4-8-0-0 so far this year. However, Portland has played better at home going 3-1-0-0, including a home win this past weekend over Lowell. Leading the Pirates skaters this season have been Mark Mancari (3 G, 8 A, 11 P), Rookie Tyler Ennis (6 G, 4 A, 10 P), and Nathan Gerbe (3 G, 7 A, 10 P). Ennis leads all AHL rookies with six goals. Portland goaltending is led by starter Jhonas Enroth and backup Jean-Philippe Lamoureux. Enroth has posted a 3.90 GAA and.872 save percentage in ten games played. Lamoureux has played in four games making 74 saves with a.871 save percentage and 3.94 GAA.
