Manitoba Moose News Release

Manitoba forward Tommy Maxwell scored the first goal of the night but the Norfolk Admirals responded with three consecutive markers to earn a 3-1 victory over the Moose at MTS Centre on Tuesday night. Norfolk earned back-to-back 3-1 wins over the Moose to sweep their first-ever series against the club. Daren Machesney stopped 26 of 29 shots in his fifth consecutive appearance.

At 2:41 Manitoba received the first powerplay of the game when Justin Keller was called-out for hooking. The Moose recorded their first shot on goaltender Riku Helenius but couldn't get the puck past him during the two-minute advantage.

Manitoba opened the scoring at 8:34. Helenius went behind his net to clear the puck, but fumbled the bullet allowing Derek LeBlanc to snatch it up. The centre-man then fed the puck to Tommy Maxwell who capitalized on the open mesh for his first of the season, 1-0.

Blair Jones suffered a boarding call at 1:23 of the second stanza, but the Moose weren't able to capitalize and went zero-for-two on the powerplay.

Near the midway point of the game, the Admirals broke their goose-egg. Dana Tyrell flew down the left wing but his shot was denied by Machesney. However, centre Paul Szczechura grabbed the rebound and jammed it under the netminder to knot the game at one.

With 2:22 left in the middle frame, Martins Karsums charged the net and went top shelf on Machesney to put his club on top, 2-1.

John Lammers hooking penalty, at 7:43 of the third period, put the Admirals on their second man-advantage. With seconds left on the PP and with a scramble of players in front of Machesney's crease, Adam Hall deflected the puck into the net with his elbow to confirm the game, 3-1.
