Norfolk Admirals News Release
A Monday matinee in Bridgeport saw the Admirals get their fourth straight victory, winning 4-3 over the Sound Tigers.
The Admirals dented the twine first in the opening frame on the man-advantage. Milan Bartovic skated over the blue line into the offensive zone and dropped a pass to a trailing Martin St. Pierre. Bartovic set up shop in front of Bridgeport netminder Frederic Cloutier and tipped St. Pierre's wrist shot from just over the blue line to give Norfolk a 1-0 lead. The Admirals fired 14 pucks on net in the first, and Admirals goaltender Corey Crawford preserved a 1-0 lead through one period by stopping all 12 Bridgeport shots.
The Sound Tigers tied the game with a shorthanded goal midway through the second stanza. Bridgeport picked up the puck off a turnover at their own blueline and Jeremy Colliton skated in on Crawford two-on-one. He scored on a wrist shot top shelf at 8:43. Norfolk resumed the lead five minutes later on the power play. Dustin Byfuglien skated behind the Bridgeport net and sent a wrap-around shot on Cloutier. The Bridgeport goalie stopped the shot, but left a rebound that Nathan Barrett poked into the net at 13:40. The lead was short-lived, as Sound Tiger winger Masi Marjamaki got the puck off a turnover in the Admirals' end and roofed a shot past Crawford's glove at 14:43. Both teams had six shots on net in the second, and the score was 2-2 heading into the third period.
Norfolk resumed the lead at 3:26 of the final frame. Eric Meloche fed a pass from the left face-off circle to Quintin Laing at the opposite circle. Laing settled down the puck before firing a wrist shot over the glove of Cloutier. The Admirals doubled their lead four minutes later while on a five-on-three power play. Mark Cullen sent a snap shot from the high slot toward the net. Matt Keith deflected the shot past Cloutier at 7:02 to give the Admirals a 4-2 lead. The Sound Tigers closed to within one goal less than four minutes later as David Masse's wrap-around eluded Crawford at 10:35. However, Corey Crawford stopped two point-blank shots with just seconds remaining in the game to seal a 4-3 victory for Norfolk.
Corey Crawford got the win and made 25 saves on 28 shots. Frederic Cloutier picked up the loss and stopped 22 of 26 Admirals' shots.
Norfolk was 3-8 on the power play while Bridgeport was 0-6.
