Admirals' Offense Leads Team Past Leaders

NORFOLK, VA - This past weekend, the Admirals' offense lit the lamp nine times as they defeated the top two squads in the East Division. On Friday the 13th, Norfolk proved unlucky for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Mark Cullen and Quintin Laing had three points apiece to help lead the Admirals to a 5-3 win, the team's first against the Pens this season. In Hershey on Sunday, Cullen, Carl Corazzini and Matt Keith each had a goal and an assist as Norfolk downed the Bears 4-2.

The Admirals continue a six-game road tilt with five games in five different venues this week.

STANDINGS At 18-14-2-2 (40 pts), Norfolk is currently fourth in the East, two points behind third-place Bridgeport (19-19-2-1, 42 pts). The division is led by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (29-5-3-1, 62 pts) followed by Hershey in second (24-10-2-6, 56 pts). Binghamton (17-19-2-2, 38 pts) and Philadelphia (15-23-0-3, 33 pts) trail the Admirals.

TEAM NOTEBOOK - Admirals' Captain Ajay Baines appeared in his 400th AHL contest on January 13th vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In that game, he notched a goal and an assist to become Norfolk's all-time scoring leader with 175 career points. His assist on Martin St. Pierre's tally at 7:50 of the first period surpassed Marty Wilford's 173 points. - With a win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on the 13th, Norfolk remained undefeated in its AHL history when playing on Friday the 13th. The Ads are now 4-0, with all contests occurring at Norfolk Scope. - After losing to Lowell 9-2 on January 6th, Norfolk has outscored its foes 15-6 in its last three games. - The Admirals have held a lead after one period just eight times this season. Sunday's game at Hershey marked the first time this year the team held an advantage after 20 minutes of play in an opposing venue. - After going just 1-28 (3.57) on the power play in four games (Dec. 28 through Jan. 6), the Ads have scored with the man-advantage six times in the last three contests (6-18, 33.33). This streak marks the first time since Norfolk's first three games of the 2005-06 campaign that the squad scored multiple power play goals in one game in consecutive contests. - Norfolk won its first contest in eight tries against Wilkes-Barre on Friday, but has picked up five points in the standings vs. the Pens, as the squads have gone to overtime thrice this year (1-4-2-1). - Mark Cullen and Carl Corazzini have both lit the lamp in each of Norfolk's last three games. - Nathan Barrett has points in four straight matches (2g, 4a).
