Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - Milwaukee goaltender Mark Dekanich picked up his first shutout of the season as the Admirals defeated the Houston Aeros 2-0 tonight at the Bradley Center. The Admirals picked up goals from Ben Guite and Colin Wilson and snapped a brief two-game losing streak, both overall and at home.
The first period of play came with a pair of power-play opportunities for the Admirals, but the team couldn't get one by Houston netminder Anton Khudobin despite controlling play and outshooting the Aeros 13-5.
Milwaukee got on the scoreboard first as Guite bested Khudobin between the legs on a pass from Robert Dietrich at 7:56 of the second period. Guite, who was ejected early in the first period last night against the Hamilton Bulldogs, notched the power play goal for the Ads, making it his sixth goal of the season.
The second period saw double the amount of penalties that the first had including a fight between Admirals Captain Nolan Yonkman and Houston's Matt Kassian, sending them both to the box for five minutes. The Admirals were successful in their penalty killing going three for three in the second stanza.
With only 1:27 remaining in the final period of play, Admirals Rookie Colin Wilson gave the team some needed insurance as he beat Khudobin with a one-timer on a pass from the far dot by Alex Sulzer.
The Admirals won the battle of special teams as they went five-for-five on the penalty kill and also converted on two of the team's five power-play opportunities.
The Admirals are off until Sunday when they host the Hamilton Bulldogs at 4:00 pm. Miracle on Ice Members Buzz Schneider and Bob Suter will be at the game to sign autographs and greet fans. The Admirals office will be open from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturday for fans to get tickets. Groups of ten or more people receive a minimum of $2 off of each 200-level ticket. For more information or to order group tickets call the Admirals office at (414) 227-0550.
