HARTFORD, Conn. - Brad Mills notched a pair of goals to lead the Lowell Devils to a 3-2 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday at the XL Center. Stephen Gionta and Cory Murphy each chipped in two assists as Lowell extended its franchise-best road winning streak to six games.
With Lowell holding on to a 2-1 edge heading into the second period, the Wolf Pack tied things up at 9:10 after the Devils failed to clear the zone and Justin Soryal redirected Jared Nightengale's slapshot inside the right post.
Lowell would go ahead for good with six minutes remaining in the middle frame on Mills' second goal of the game. Murphy swung a cross-zone feed to the near circle for Gionta quickly fired a wrist shot that Mills past the glove of Matt Zaba for his seventh of the season.
The Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals scored over a span of 3:25 by Nathan Perkovich and Mills. Lowell gathered its first goal on the man-advantage as Perkovich banged a loose puck across the goal line at 5:15 after Michael Swift fluttered a wrist shot toward the crease.
Mills then completed a 2-on-1 rush himself with a wrist shot to the top right corner that chased Hartford goaltender Steve Valiquette from the game after just 8:41 of work.
The Wolf Pack would get on the board at 15:10 of the first when Kenny Roche one-touched a pass to Dane Byers in front for a stuff shot through the pads of McKenna. Lowell's netminder would finish the game with 35 saves for his 16th win of the season.
