MILWAUKEE, WI - The Houston Aeros (22-19-6-1) fell to the Milwaukee Admirals (27-16-1-5) 2-0 Friday night in front of 11,510 at the Bradley Center. G Anton Khudobin (9-14-1) made 26 saves in the loss for Houston while G Mark Dekanich (15-9-3) stopped 21 shots for the win and his first shutout of the season. C Ben Guite and C Colin Wilson each scored a powerplay goal for the Admirals.
The teams played to a scoreless first period which was controlled mostly by the Admirals, who outshot the Aeros 13-5. Milwaukee finally capitalized in the second period, taking a 1-0 lead with a powerplay goal at 7:56. After the Aeros cleared the puck from the defensive zone, Guite gained control on the rush. He entered the Aeros zone on the right wing, skated by D Justin Falk and sent a back hand shot past Khudobin for his sixth goal of the season. D Robert Dietrich and Dekanich each assisted on the play, it was Dekanich's second career AHL assist.
Special teams played a key role in the game and the Aeros had a chance to answer Guite's goal with three consecutive powerplays in the second period, but were unsuccessful. The teams traded chances in the third period but Houston was unable to tie the game before D Ryan Gunderson was whistled for interference at 17:42. On the ensuing power-play, D Alexander Sulzer sent a cross ice pass to Wilson, who beat Khudobin from just inside the right face-off dot for a 2-0 lead at 18:27. The Aeros were unable to respond in the final minute and suffered their third shutout of the season.
Milwaukee finished the game out-shooting the Aeros 30-21. The Admirals went 2-for-5 on the power-play while Houston went 0-for-5. The Aeros had not been shut out since a 2-0 loss on October 29 at Grand Rapids, they were also shutout 1-0 by the Lake Erie Monsters October 21 at Toyota Center.
