ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Peoria Rivermen came back to tie the game twice against the Rockford IceHogs but fell 4-2 at the MetroCentre on Friday night. Goaltender Corey Crawford helped kill off all six Rivermen power plays and stop Peoria from completing their comeback bid.

The Rivermen rallied to score twice in the final 4 minutes of the second period to tie the game at 1-1 and again at 2-2. Crawford made 27 saves to secure Rockford's second win in as many Fridays against the Rivermen.

Playing on pink ice, to help raise awareness for breast cancer research, the Rivermen controlled the early part of the first period thanks in part to four first-period power plays. Peoria had a chance on a 5-on-3 advantage for 55 seconds just 3:53 into the game but Crawford and Ben Bishop both made six saves in the first and pushed the scoreless tie into the second frame.

In the opening minutes of the second, the Rivermen power-play unit failed to convert on a 4-on-3 advantage. After turning back to 5-on-4, Bryce Lampman was called for tripping and gave the IceHogs their second power play of the game. Jack Skille gave the IceHogs the lead at 5:01 after Kyle Greentree fed his own rebound back into the slot. It was the 16th of the year for Skille and first of two points on the night.

The game remained 1-0 until the 16:00 mark of the period when Chris Porter notched his eighth of the season. Crawford wrapped the puck along the boards and into the skates of Ryan Reaves who alertly shot the puck towards the open goal. Crawford went sliding back across to make the save but left a rebound and an empty net for Porter. The goal for Porter was his first since Nov. 20 and snapped a 24-game goalless drought.

Rockford evened the score just 45 seconds later. Skille's shot missed the net wide and Greentree banked the puck off Bishop and sent it rolling across the goal line. Referee Kyle Rehman initially blew the play down and called for a conference with the linesmen. After a conversation with his partners he signaled goal and credited Greentree with his 18th of the season.

Again Peoria had the answer. This time, at 18:54, Pascal Pelletier setup Jonas Junland for his 10th goal. Following a turnover that created a 2-on-1, Pelletier waited for a trailing Junland who fired it off the right post and in. The assists for Pelletier extended his assist streak to seven games.

Jake Dowell scored the eventual game-winner just 3:14 into the third period. Simon Danis-Pepin's slapshot from the right point was redirected by Dowell under the arm of Bishop for his fifth of the season.

Both team's special teams missed chances to score with time running down as Peoria's failed to convert on 1:52 of 4-on-3 and Rockford came up empty on 1:54 of 5-on-3. The IceHogs finished 1-for-5 on the power play. Bishop made 31 saves in the loss.

Matt Keith secured the game with an empty-net goal at 19:12. The Rivermen are now 4-2-0-1 against the IceHogs this season.
