Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va.

- Trevor Smith had a hat trick and Dustin Tokarski stopped all 14 shots he faced as the Norfolk Admirals (4-0-1-0) topped the Binghamton Senators (2-3-1-0), 7-0, on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The same two teams meet tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15 p.m. before the Admirals embark on a seven-game road trip.

Matt Fornataro assisted on all three of Smith's goals. J.T. Wyman, Carter Ashton, Cory Conacher and Dana Tyrell also found the back of the net.

The Admirals took a 1-0 lead just 4:48 into the first period. Matt Fornataro's shot from the left half wall went off Binghamton goaltender Robin Lehner and then off Admirals forward Trevor Smith in the goalmouth on its way into the net. The goal was Smith's first as an Admiral.

Norfolk's lead doubled with a power play goal just 4:06 into the second stanza. Dana Tyrell cut into the attacking zone along the left wing all the way to the bottom of the left circle. He then sent a tape-to-tape pass to J.T. Wyman in the low slot. Wyman sent a shot past the left leg of Lehner for his second goal of the season.

The Admirals utilized another power play goal at just over 11 minutes later to go ahead, 3-0. Cory Conacher sent a pass from the right half wall to Carter Ashton in the right corner. Ashton skated toward the net and scored on his second shot through the legs of Lehner. The goal at 15:26 was Ashton's team-leading fifth of the season.

Smith's second goal of the game put the Admirals ahead, 4-0, just 4:27 into the final frame. Kevin Quick's point shot was stopped by new Senators goaltender Mike McKenna. The rebound went into the slot, where Alexandre Picard was able to slide it over to Smith near McKenna's left leg. Smith sent a quick shot past the goalie's skate for a power play goal.

Smith completed the hat trick just over six minutes later. Fornataro emerged from the right corner and fed the puck into the low slot. Smith one-timed the puck into the top of the net at 10:30 for a 5-0 lead.

The Admirals used two quick strikes in the final five minutes of the game to wrap up scoring. Cory Conacher netted his fourth goal of the season at 14:55. Ashton carried the puck into the attacking zone and the puck slid off his stick in the low slot. Conacher collected the loose puck and shot it over McKenna's glove for a 6-0 Norfolk lead.

The Admirals closed out scoring just 11 seconds later. Mike Angelidis picked off a pass at the right point and sent a wrist shot toward the net. Tyrell redirected the puck past the left leg of McKenna at 15:06 for his first goal of the season.

Dustin Tokarski (2-1-0) turned aside all 14 shots he faced for the shutout. Robin Lehner (2-2-0) stopped 35 of 38 shots through 40:00 for the loss. Former Admiral Mike McKenna (0-2-0) stopped 11 of 15 shots in 20:00 of relief and did not receive a decision.

Norfolk was 3-4 on the power play. Binghamton was 0-2.
