Houston Aeros News Release

CHARLOTTE --- Jeff Taffe scored with four seconds left in regulation to complete a three-goal third period rally as the Houston Aeros nipped the Charlotte Checkers 3-2 on Friday at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Trailing 2-0 midway through the final stanza, Casey Wellman and David McIntyre scored goals eight seconds apart in the third period to tie the game. Wellman cut the lead in half with a power play marker at the 10:01 mark of the third period. The goal was Wellman's fifth in five games. Checkers starting goaltender Justin Peters was injured on the play, forcing backup Mike Murphy into the game. McIntyre struck on the ensuing play to knot the game at 2-2.

Taffe 's first goal of the season capped a third period surge in which the Aeros out shot the Checkers 15-8. It was Taffe's first goal in an Aeros sweater.

Aeros goaltender Matt Hackett made 33 stops and improved his personal record to 2-1-0-1.

Zach Boychuk scored both goals for the Checkers, both coming via the power play.

The Aeros face the Checkers again on Saturday at 6 p.m. CST before returning home on Sunday to battle Grand Rapids at 5:05 p.m.
