
Crunch Announce Nate Guenin as Captain

Syracuse, NY (October 21, 2011) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that they have named defenseman Nate Guenin as their team captain for the 2011-12 season. In addition, the club also announced that center Nathan Smith and right wing Troy Bodie have been named alternate captains.
Guenin, 28, becomes the 13th full-time captain in franchise history (Dane Jackson, 1994-95, Mark Wotton, 1995-99, Brian Bonin, 1999-00, Mike Gaul, 2000-01, Sean Pronger, 2001-02, David Ling 2002-03, Darrell Scoville, 2003-04, Jamie Pushor, 2004-07, Zenon Konopka 2007-08, Dan Smith 2008-09 and Derek MacKenzie 2009-10, Joe DiPenta 2010-11).
"Nate's character and experience make him an excellent choice for captain," said Syracuse Crunch Head Coach Mark Holick. "The leadership that we have from Nate, as well as Nathan and Troy, will be a great asset to our locker room."
Guenin is a veteran of 367 professional games, including 348 combined AHL contests with Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Peoria, Springfield and Syracuse since the 2006-07 season, collecting 78 points (14g, 64a) and 496 penalty minutes. In addition, Guenin has skated in 19 NHL games with Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Columbus and Anaheim, recording three points (1g, 2a) and 10 penalty minutes. A native of Sewickley, PA, Guenin was acquired by Anaheim on January 4, 2011 from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Trevor Smith. He was originally selected by the New York Rangers in the 4thround, 127 th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Smith, 29, has appeared in 475 combined AHL games with Manitoba, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Lake Erie, Houston and Syracuse since 2003-04, collecting 206 points (86g, 120a) and 487 penalty minutes. In addition, he has skated in 35 NHL games with Vancouver, Pittsburgh, and Minnesota, recording 28 points (15g, 13a) and 24 penalty minutes. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Smith was signed by Syracuse as a free agent on August 11, 2011.
Bodie, 26, has appeared in 341 professional games since the 2006-07 season, including 188 combined AHL contests with Hamilton, Springfield, Iowa, San Antonio, Toronto and Syracuse, earning 57 points (33g, 24a) and 300 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 107 career NHL games with Anaheim and Carolina, tallying 11 points (6g, 5a) and 141 penalty minutes. A native of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Bodie was originally selected by Edmonton in the ninth round, 278th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by Anaheim on October 12, 2011.
