Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany Devils Steve Zalewski scored for the second-straight game, but four unanswered goals by the Hershey Bears gave them 4-1 win Friday at the Times Union Center.

The Devils, who have scored first three times this season, held a 1-0 lead and a 10-5 shot advantage at different times during the first period. However, goals at 10:37 and 18:47 gave the Bears their lead.

"I thought that first period was one of our better periods through our first six games," captain Stephen Gionta said. "Unfortunately, we had a bad break on the [penalty kill] where it goes off our guy's foot to their guy back door."

The Bears used first-period goals by Matthew Ford and Cody Eakin, a second period tally by Christian Hanson (5:57) and a third period goal by Boyd Kane (18:03) for their fourth win in five games. They sit in first place in the Eastern Conference with nine points.

"It's not always the team that played the best during a period that ends up with the lead," Gionta said. "It is a 60 minute game and I don't think we had that tonight. You need 60 minutes against a team like that."

Zalewski's goal came with help from Matthew Corrente and Stephane Veilleux at 6:52 of the first. Taormina made a cross-ice pass to Matthew Corrente, who sprung Zalewski for a breakaway.

In goal, Jeff Frazee held the score close with 19 stops on 23 shots. For Hershey, Braden Holtby made 18 saves on 19 shots for his second win of the season.

"He got banged around and I thought he battled hard," head coach Rick Kowalsky said of Frazee. "We can't fault him."

Next up, the Devils host the Adirondack Phantoms for the first game of the Time Warner Cable Cup tomorrow at 7 p.m. Fans can take advantage of the "Deuces Wild" ticket package and receive two tickets, two hats, two sodas, two popcorns and two flex tickets for just $30.

Additionally, the City of Albany begins its "Mayor's Fall Drop Off" at the game. Fans attending the game are encouraged to donate a new winter item (coat, gloves, etc.) and receive a free ticket voucher to a future Devils home game.
