Wolves Name Baumgartner Eighth Captain in Franchise History

The Chicago Wolves have named defenseman NOLAN BAUMGARTNER team captain for the 2011-12 season.

The 35-year-old blueliner becomes the eighth player in franchise history to don the "C" after Steve Maltais (1994-96 and 1997-2005), Troy Murray (1996-97), Kevin Dahl (2000-01), Derek MacKenzie (2005-06), Darren Haydar (2007-08), Jamie Rivers (2008-09) and Jason Krog (2009-11).

Forwards DARREN HAYDAR and KEVIN DOELL have been named alternate captains for the season.

"Nolan has so much experience and is such a professional in every aspect," said Wolves Head Coach Craig MacTavish. "He has been a leader everywhere he has been and I feel confident he can lead this group."

BAUMGARTNER is in his first season with the Wolves and 16th professional season overall. He has posted 40 assists, 47 points and 67 penalty minutes in 143 career National Hockey League outings with the Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas Stars.

The Calgary native also has tallied 81 goals, 287 assists, 368 points and 784 penalty minutes in 818 career American Hockey League contests with the Portland Pirates, Norfolk Admirals, Manitoba Moose, Philadelphia Phantoms and Iowa Stars.
