Admirals' Leading Scorer Kyle Wanvig Returns

NORFOLK, VA - Norfolk Admirals leading scorer Kyle Wanvig was returned to the club today following a seven-game stint with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning. The announcement was made today by Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster. Wanvig will join the Admirals in time for their upcoming road games in Binghamton on Friday and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday.
Wanvig, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound right wing, remains the Admirals' leader with 13 goals, 23 assists and 36 points in 33 games. He is also tied for the team lead with seven power play goals. Wanvig was selected as a member of the Canadian AHL All-Stars for last weekend's AHL All-Star Classic Presented by Reebok but was unable to participate due to the NHL recall. In 321 career AHL games, Wanvig has 91 goals and 97 assists for 188 points and 648 penalty minutes.
Wanvig was recalled to the Lightning on January 5 and appeared in seven games, scoring one goal with seven penalty minutes. It was the second career stint with the club for the seventh-year pro from Calgary, Alberta. Last season, he skated in four games with Tampa Bay going scoreless with no penalty minutes. Wanvig has now appeared in 75 career NHL games between Tampa Bay and the Minnesota Wild, scoring six goals and nine assists with 94 penalty minutes.
Wanvig was drafted by the Wild in the second round (36th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. After playing five seasons in the Minnesota system, he signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers during the 2006 off-season. He was acquired by the Lightning along with Stephen Baby for Andy Delmore and Andre Deveaux on February 1, 2007.
The Admirals return to action with a pair road contests later this week. They visit Binghamton on Friday night at 7:05 before traveling to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for an afternoon contest against the Penguins at 3:05.
