Admirals Get Win Number 40

The Norfolk Admirals' ( 40-17-4-1) became the first team in the American Hockey League to 40 wins as they topped the Lowell Devils (29-24-5-2) 3-2 on Friday night at the Tsongas Arena .

The teams swapped goals in the first period. Admirals winger Troy Brouwer opened scoring with a power play tally at 5:21. Lowell's Mike Pandolfo answered with a man advantage marker of his own at 19:00.

Dustin Byfuglien put Norfolk on top 2-1 with a goal at 10:50 of the second period. It appeared as if the Admirals would enter the third period with the lead. However, Devils forward Ryan Murphy tied the game at two goals apiece when he scored with only one second remaining in the second stanza.

Colin Fraser scored the game-winner at 7:33 of the final frame. Admirals netminder Mike Brodeur stopped all 12 Lowell shots he faced in the third period to seal a 3-2 Norfolk victory.

Brodeur (36 shots, 34 saves) picked up his second victory of the season. Frank Doyle (40 shots, 37 saves) got the loss.

Norfolk was 1-3 on the power play while Lowell was 1-5.

The Admirals head to Worcester tomorrow and Portland on Sunday before
