Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI- Goaltender Pekka Rinne stopped all 23 shots he faced to pick up his second shut-out of the season and Simon Gamache scored the game's lone goal as the Milwaukee Admirals came away with a 1-0 win over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Tuesday night at the Bradley Center.
Gamache got the Admirals all the offense they would need when he picked up his 12th goal of the season at 8:36 of the opening period. With the puck on the near boards Milwaukee forward Darren Haydar found a streaking Gamache who buried a wrister from between the circles. Rick Berry also assisted on the play.
The two teams played a scoreless second period, but it wasn't for a lack of opportunities. Each team had point blank chances, but Rinne and Omaha backstop Curtis McElhinney withstood all challenges. The Knights threw 13 shots on goal in the period while the Admirals recorded eight.
The Admirals defense put the clamps on in the third period, allowing just one shot on goal in the first eight minutes of the period. Rinne and the Ads also withstood a six-on-five advantage from the Knights for the final 2:08 of the game, as Omaha pulled McElhinney in favor of an extra attacker.
Gamache and Haydar have both posted at least a point in three straight games, as the Ads pulled within two points of division leading Houston. Haydar's assist gave him 76 points on the season, establishing a new career high. The win was Rinne's 26th on the season.
The Admirals hit the road for a five game road trip through Canada starting Wednesday in Hamilton. Watch all of the Admirals road games live on the B2 Networks at https://www.b2livetv.com. The next Milwaukee home game will be on Friday, March 31st at 7:00 pm versus the Iowa Stars. The first 3,500 fans will receive a baseball hat, courtesy of ImageMark.
