Rewind:
Friday, Springfield 4 vs. Monsters 0
The host Falcons scored twice in the first period and twice in the third to pace a 4-0 shutout of the Monsters. Tyler Weiman stopped 23 of 26 shots, while Springfield added an empty netter to seal the win.
Saturday, Manchester 2 vs. Monsters 1, shootout
The Monarchs and Monsters exchanged second period tallies, but Manchester edged Lowell in the shootout, 2-1. Tyler Weiman stopped 42 shots in regulation and overtime, and surrendered just two goals on eight shootout chances. Northeastern alum Leon Hayward scored in regulation for Lowell to tie the game, and added the only goal in the extra session for the Monsters.
Sunday, Monsters 4 vs. Manchester 2
The Monsters scored three times in the third period to skate to a 4-2 win over the Monarchs. Scott Kelman, David Gove, Keith Aucoin and Mark Pandolfo each had a goal and an assist, and Leon Hayward had a pair of helpers in the win. Weiman started for the third straight day and picked up the win with 23 saves.
Where we stand
Lowell sits 10 points behind the Providence Bruins for fourth place in the Atlantic Division, with 10 games remaining. Providence has four games in hand on the Monsters. Bridgeport also has a 10-point lead on Lowell in the East Division, with the potential playoff cross-over, and has two games in hand.
Monsters Memos
- Lowell signed UMass-Lowell River Hawk Mark Pandolfo to an Amateur Try-out contract on Sunday morning, and he scored the game winning goal and added an assist in the 4-2 win over Manchester.
- Rookie Jeff Campbell, on a PTO with Lowell from the Gwinnett Gladiators (ECHL), notched his first career AHL point with an assist on Saturday in Manchester.
- After missing the last eight games and sitting out since February 26th, David Gove returned to the Monsters lineup with a goal and an assist on Sunday.
- Lowell has used a league-high 54 players this season.
- Keith Aucoin recorded his 50th assist of the season on Sunday, one shy of the team record (Eric Staal, 2004-05). His 76 points is the second-highest single season total in team history, passing Chuck Kobasew's 75 (2004-05) and one point shy of Staal (2004-05).
- The Lock Monsters are a combined 15-10-3-5 against the four Atlantic Division teams in playoff position.
- Lowell is 5-1-2-1 in their last nine Sunday games.
