WEEK IN REVIEW
Wednesday, March 15: Hartford 8, Phantoms 2 - Hartford's Brad Smyth registered a five-point night with two goals and three assists to lead the Wolf Pack at the Wachovia Spectrum. Matt Ellison and Marc Cavosie scored for Philadelphia, with Ellison collecting his ninth and Cavosie his fourth. The first Philly goal tied the game early in the second period, while Cavosie cut a 4-1 lead in half. Both Jamie Storr and Martin Houle participated in the defeat, with Storr starting and later finishing the game. He stopped 10 of 12, while Houle was tagged with the loss after allowing six goals on 14 shots. The loss tied several opponent records, including goals against, margin of defeat and goals in a period (5).
Friday, March 17: Phantoms 3, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 2 - Marc Cavosie exercised some St. Patrick's Day magic with a hat trick, the third goal of which was the overtime game-winner in a 3-2 triumph over the Baby Pens at the Wachovia Spectrum. Cavosie's night vanquished goals from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Guillaume Lefebvre and Jonathan Filewich. Martin Houle gathered the win with 33 saves on 35 wins.
Saturday, March 18: Binghamton 3, Phantoms 2 - The Phantoms scored one late goal and almost grabbed another to force overtime, but ended falling 3-2 in Binghamton. Trailing by two goals, Marc Cavosie cut the lead to one with just 56.4 seconds remaining on the clock. Cavosie's shot originated from deep in the left wing corner and banked off Senators goalie Kelly Guard and in. The Phantoms appeared to have tied the game, but it was deemed that the puck crossed the line after the final horn. Tony Voce had the other Phantoms goal, which was his team leading 10th power play marker and 18th overall. John Slaney had two assists in the game. Martin Houle suffered the loss, making 35 saves.
Sunday, March 19: Norfolk 3, Phantoms 1 - Admirals goalie Adam Munro made 25 saves to hold off the Phantoms at the Wachovia Spectrum. Stephen Wood scored his second of the year to open the scoring at 10:00 of the first period, but Norfolk reeled off three straight over the rest of the night. Jamie Storr took the loss with 22 saves on 25 shots.
UPCOMING OPPONENTS
Friday, March 24: Phantoms vs. Albany - The Phantoms host the Albany River Rats on Photo Night this Friday at the Spectrum. Albany starts the week in 7th place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 23-38-4-2 for 52 points. The Rats will be in Binghamton on Wednesday, where they'll be looking to wash away the taste of a 7-1 loss to Springfield on Sunday night.
Sunday, March 26: Phantoms vs. Portland - The Pirates make their only visit of the season to Philadelphia on Sunday. Portland has wrapped up a playoff spot and is nearing a clinch of the Atlantic Division title with a record of 42-16-5-3 for 92 points. BIG WEEKEND WITH THE PHANTOMS
This Friday night is Photo Night with the Phantoms! Fans will be able to take photos with all their favorite players following the game with Albany. Then on Sunday, it's John Stevens Bobblehead Night at the Spectrum when the Phantoms host Portland. The first 4,000 fans will receive a John Stevens "Turn Back The Clock" Bobblehead courtesy of Comcast.
CAVOSIE NOMINATED FOR AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Phantoms nominated Marc Cavosie for the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week award this week. Cavosie scored five goals during the past week, collecting all of them in the first three of Philadelphia's four games. He scored a hat trick on Friday, producing all the Phantoms scoring in a 3-2 overtime victory over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton that included the game winner in the extra session. He sandwiched that performance with one-goal games on Wednesday vs. Hartford and on Saturday at Binghamton.
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL JERSEY AUCTION
It was a festive party in Bullies for Friday's St. Patrick's Day jersey auction. The Phantoms raised $28,100 from the sale of 24 jerseys, for an average price of $1,171. The high bid of the night was $2,200 for Riley Cote's #19 sweater. A portion of the funds raised goes to the Phantoms Wives charities, a division of the Comcast-Spectacor Foundation.
PHANTOMS NOTABLES
Rookie defenseman Charlie Cook leads the Phantoms in plus-minus with a +8 rating. The only rookie to ever lead the team in that category at the end of a season was Guillaume Lefebvre, who shared the lead with John Slaney at +12 in 2001-02...Philadelphia's 8-2 loss to Hartford on Wednesday tied several franchise records, including goals against, margin of defeat and goals in a period (5)... the Phantoms play eight of their final 12 games at home, including the next four in a row. Philadelphia does not board the bus again until an April 1 trip to Hershey... After the Phantoms play Albany and Portland this weekend, the remaining 10 games will be against divisional opponents. Nine of the 10 games come against Norfolk, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Hershey.
THIS WEEK IN THE PHANTOMS ATTIC
The Phantoms are preparing more one-of-a-kind items for auction this week in The Phantoms Attic, the team's online Ebay store. Look for some historic game-worn jerseys, and there might be a few leprechauns still poking around as well!
