Admirals Drop 6-3 Decision to Chicago

Milwaukee, WI--The Milwaukee Admirals opened each of the first two periods by surrendering goals at nine seconds of the first and 23 seconds of the second respectively, as they lost 6-3 in the latest installment of the Amtrak Rivalry Series against the Chicago Wolves Friday night at the Bradley Center.

The Admirals have now lost four consecutive games to the Wolves, after topping their arch-rival on opening night. The last two losses have come by a combined score of 13-5.

A defensive breakdown by the Admirals gave Chicago an early lead just seconds after the contest started. The Wolves' Tim Stapleton was able to find the back of the net on a shot that whizzed past the blocker of Mark Dekanich. The goal was Stapleton's twentieth on the season and it gave Chicago an early 1-0 lead before many in the crowd of 10,138 found their seats.

It didn't take long for the Wolves to add to their lead as Chicago's Johnny Pohl was able to chip in a loose puck in the crease at 3:27. The Admirals had their work cut out for them behind 2-0 not half-way through the first period.

The Admirals continued to skate hard and put some pressure on the Chicago defense. The effort paid off when Jon Blum ripped a driving slap shot on goal that Mike Santorelli was able to tip it past Chicago's Drew MacIntyre for his thirteenth goal of the season. The timely goal cut the deficit in half heading into the first intermission.

However the Admirals couldn't sustain any momentum and it wasn't long before the Wolves to add to their lead. It took Matt Anderson only twenty-three seconds to find Joey Crabb who was able to give the Wolves a 3-1 lead in the second period.

At 10:34 of the second Chicago's Spencer Machacek made matters worse for the home team. Machacek recorded an unassisted goal cleaning up in front of goaltender Mark Dekanich to give the Wolves a 4-1 lead in the second period.

A hooking penalty on the Admirals' Jon Blum forty-seven seconds into the third period proved costly. The Admirals special teams were unable to keep the Wolves attack at bay. Chicago's power play unit was able to capitalize as Brett Sterling served the puck up to Nathan Oystrick, who drove the puck up under the cross bar, over the shoulder of Dekanich for a 5-1 Chicago lead at 1:54 of the third period.

The Wolves' Noah Welch added another goal at 9:24 of the third to cap of their scoring for the Wolves as their lead swelled to 6-1.

Milwaukee found their offense midway through the third. The Admirals Colin Wilson added a goal at 12:59 of the third. Wilson was able to corral the loose puck and drill it past MacIntyre's glove to make it a 6-2 contest. Shortly thereafter Hugh Jessiman got in on the action. Jessiman took advantage of MacIntyre over committing to his right and was able to smash the puck through the pipes, bringing the Admirals within three goals. It was Jessiman's tenth goal of the season.

But the Admirals were unable to muster enough offense on this night to complete the comeback and the score remained 6-3 the rest of the way.

Jessiman finished the night with a Gordie Howe hat trick finishing with a goal, an assist, and fighting major. O'Reilly chipped in a pair of assists for the Ads.
