Peoria Rivermen News Release

PEORIA, IL - A day that began in celebration ended in frustration as the Peoria Rivermen fell to the Rockford 3-2 at Carver Arena on Friday night, just hours after announcing a five-year extension to their lease with the Peoria Civic Center. The Rivermen thought they had tied the game with 46 seconds remaining in the third but the goal was disallowed because of a disputed high-stick.

The Rivermen stormed back from trailing 2-0 after the opening 8:11 of the first. Kyle Greentree notched his 16th of the season at 1:19, converting a one-timer from Bracken Kearns at the top of the circle. At 8:11 Akim Aliu dragged a puck through the slot and into the net while he accompanied the puck into the goal.

For the second week in a row, the Rivermen were able to come back and tie the game against Rockford. This time it occurred before the end of the first period. Steve Wagner put the Rivermen on the board at 15:48 when his wrist shot kicked off the glove of Corey Crawford and into the top of the net. Justin Fletcher and Pascal Pelletier assisted on the play. Pelletier now has points in each of his last five games.

Lars Eller struck with 1 second remaining in the frame, slamming home a rebound from a Wagner shot. It was the seventh of the season for the rookie who, along with Jonas Junland, represented the Rivermen at the 2010 AHL All-Star Game on Tuesday.

In the opening 5 minutes of the second period, the Rivermen appeared to have taken a 3-2 lead. Ryan Reaves, parked at the post, jammed the puck across the line while the whistle sounded simultaneously. The goal was waived off and the 2-2 remained until 9:28.

Ryan Flinn scored the eventual game-winner by tipping a Simon Danis-Pepin over the shoulder of Hannu Toivonen, who finished the game with 26 saves.

Peoria was outshot 29-24 in the game but the Rivermen edged Rockford 10-9 in the third period.

Special teams were a nonfactor as Peoria's potent power play was limited to one advantage that lasted only 7 seconds. Rockford was 0-for-3.
