Albany River Rats News Release

Albany, NY- Sound Tigers forward Trevor Smith scored the game-winner at 3:30 of overtime to give Bridgeport to a 2-1 victory over the Albany River Rats Friday night at the Times Union Center.

Albany unloaded a season-high 50 shots on Sound Tigers goaltender Nathan Lawson, whose only blemish came midway through the third period on Jerome Samson's game-tying sixteenth goal of the season. Bridgeport stole the contest in overtime on a 3-on-2 odd-man rush that saw Smith crash the net and push a loose rebound past River Rats goaltender Justin Peters.

The River Rats dominated the first two periods and out-shot the visitors 35-17, but Samson's first period power play blast off of the post was as close as either team came to breaking through before the third.

The Sound Tigers hit the board at 6:34 of the final period, when forward Greg Moore banked-in a centering attempt off of Peters. Albany responded at the 11 minute mark of the stanza, when a broken Bridgeport stick essentially turned a 5-on-3 River Rats power play into a 5-on-2 advantage. Chris Terry fed a pass through the low slot to Albany's leading scorer Jerome Samson for a one-time tally that forced overtime.

Peters stopped 31-of-33 and took the loss as Albany fell to 23-16-3-2 this season. Lawson stopped 49-of-50 for the win to lift the Sound Tigers to 22-19-2-3 this year. The River Rats out-shot Bridgeport 50-33 and went 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Sound Tigers went 0-for-5 on the man-advantage.

Albany plays Game Eight of the Time Warner Cable Cup series against the Phantoms tomorrow night in Glens Falls at 7:00 p.m. River Rats 2009-10 pro-rated season and flexible ticket packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com
