Aces Get Revenge with 3-0 Shutout
March 4, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Anchorage, Alaska â One night after being shutout by the Bakersfield Condors 3-0, the Alaska Aces returned the favor, 3-0 in front of 3,214 fans at the Sullivan Arena on Wednesday night. Bakersfield finishes the season series 5-4-1 against Alaska.
The Aces dominated the first period of play, pinning Bakersfield in their own zone for the majority of the opening period. They pounded Joe Watkins with 14 shots on net in the period, finally taking a 1-0 lead on a perfect redirection by Chris Lipsett at the 16:38 mark. It snapped Watkins' shutout streak of 93:52 and gave the Aces the advantage after one period.
Watkins held back the Aces attack in the second period, as both teams were scoreless in the frame. Watkins stopped 11 Alaska shots in the middle frame and 24 shots through two periods. Bakersfield was unable to get on the board, despite two power play opportunities in the period. It remained 1-0 after 40 minutes.
Lipsett added his second of the night in the third period. He intercepted an errant pass in the Condors end and blasted it past Watkins from the top of the right circle for the 2-0 lead at 3:17. His third of the night found the Condors empty net with less than a minute remaining in the game for the 3-0 win.
The Condors return home to play the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Sunday, March 7th at 2:00pm. All fans in attendance will receive a Condors "Splash Down" Poster, courtesy of Bright House Networks, Spanish Radio Group, Everlasting Pools.
