Two Defensemen Return to Pride

March 4, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release

FLORENCE, SC – The Florence Pride, proud members of the ECHL, announced today that defenseman Scott Balan has been reassigned to the team from the AHL Norfolk Admirals, and defenseman Ryan Knox has been activated from the injured-reserve list. Both players should be in uniform for the Pride's home game tonight at 7:00 p.m. against the Columbus Cottonmouths.

Balan was recalled by the Admirals yesterday, and appeared in Norfolk's 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms. He did not record any points and was a minus-1 in the Admirals' ninth win in their last 10 games.

Knox returns to the active roster for the first time since December 5. He has missed the last 38 games after being hit in the face with a puck in the Pride's 3-2 overtime loss to the South Carolina Stingrays on December 5. Prior to the injury, Knox played in 19 games, posting four goals and adding seven assists for 11 points. Despite missing most of the season, Knox is still the second-leading scorer among defensemen on the Pride roster.

In addition to those moves, the Pride have placed left-wing Jeff Szwez on the seven-day injured-reserve list.

In addition to tonight's game against Columbus, the Pride are home for two more games this weekend. Tomorrow, they host the Greensboro Generals at 7:30 p.m. on Mac and Cheese Night. Fans are encouraged to purchase a box of macaroni and cheese at either Piggly Wiggly or Harris Teeter to use as a noisemaker during the game. Following the game, personnel from the Manna House will be on hand to collect the boxes. Sunday afternoon, the Pride host the Charlotte Checkers at 2:30 p.m. on another Sunday Kids' Day. Tickets for kids 12 and under are available for just $2.50, while kids' meals are available for an additional $2.50. Also, the Kelly Cup will be on display on the concourse throughout the game. Fans will have the opportunity to have their pictures taken with the Cup, as well as meet its namesake, Pat Kelly.

Tickets for all remaining Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or by calling the Pride office at (843) 669-7825.
