SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls helped raise $31,500 at their annual "Tip-A-Gull" event, which was held Sunday at Dick's Last Resort. The proceeds, which will go to United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County and KSWB Cares for Kids, was the most raised in the 13-year history of the event.

During the event, Gulls players served as waiters, greeters and bartenders to the standing room only crowd at Dick's Last Resort. They also assisted 91X on-air talent Steve West with a live action, which featured NHL, MLB, NFL and Gulls memorabilia.

The highlight of the auction, which was no surprise, was the bidding war between those who wanted the coveted prize of getting a "date" with two Gulls players. David Neale and Dan Cousineau were the beneficiaries this year and were "purchased" for $3,000.

Getting a chance to do a period of color with Gulls play-by-play voice Chris Ello was also a high-priced commodity. Two lucky fans will get their chance after bidding $1,000 each.

Gulls leading scorer Mark Pederson also got into the act by auctioning off his tooth, which was knocked out after taking a puck to the face Friday night in Las Vegas. How much did it go for? Try $100.

"We want to thank the entire San Diego Gulls organization, from the front office to the players, for making the evening such a huge success," Dave Carucci, executive director of UCP (San Diego County) said.

"These players are not only champions on the ice, they are champions in the San Diego Community," John Mooney, fund development/marketing coordinator of UCP (San Diego County) said.

The proceeds will benefit UCP of San Diego County and KSWB Cares for Kids. UCP is recognized as one of the largest and most efficient health charities in America, and its affiliate in San Diego spends approximately 84 percent of its total income on community programs and services.

The KSWB Cares for Kids Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, was established to improve the lives of children and families in San Diego County by supporting local children's charities.

Last year the Gulls helped raise $19,500, which is now the second most in "Tip-A-Gull" history.
