Koenig Called Up to Cincinnati

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls announced Thursday that Trevor Koenig has been loaned to the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. In return, Cincinnati assigned goaltender Eddy Ferhi to the Gulls.

Koenig, 29, has appeared in 41 games for the Gulls this season, posting a 26-6-8 record with a 2.27 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. He's tied for third in the ECHL in wins, while ranking fourth in GAA. Koenig is also fourth in the league in minutes played (2,433). He was also selected as the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for January.

The 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pound native of Edmonton Alberta has won 20-or-more games in each of his four seasons with the Gulls, including a career-high 42 in 2001-02. Koenig also backstopped San Diego to the West Coast Hockey League Taylor Cup Championship twice (2001 and 2003).

Koenig is 125-45-18 with 17 shutouts, a 2.36 GAA and .916 save percentage in 195 career regular season games with the Gulls. He's the franchise's all-time leader in GAA, shutouts and save percentage. Koenig is second all-time in appearances, wins, minutes played and saves.

Ferhi, 24, has appeared in 14 games for Cincinnati this season, accumulating a 2-10-2 record with a 3.10 GAA and.899 save percentage.

He began his professional career late last season after spending the previous four years at Sacred Heart University. During his four-year sting it college, the 6-foot-3-inch, 197-pounder from Charenton, France set school records for career GAA (2.63) and single-season GAA (2.27), which he attained during the 2002-03 season. He also tied a Sacred Heart University record with career wins (36) and games played in a season (31).
