Csumrik sent to Peoria

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Aces sent defenseman Dave Csumrik to satisfy the future considerations portion of Wednesday's trade that brought forward Bret DeCecco and defenseman Malcolm Hutt from Peoria.

Csumrik, who will turn 24 May 1, appeared in 97 games over two seasons with the Aces, scoring 50 points on 13 goals and 37 assists while racking up 301 minutes in penalties. He led all Alaska defenseman in scoring at the time of the trade while compiling a solid +6 rating.

DeCecco played in 54 of Peoria's 57 games this season, scoring 10 goals and assisting on 14 others with a +2 rating and 92 minutes in penalties. The 5-11, 197-pound center registered 34 points last year (15g-19a) for Peoria and 36 points (17g-19a) in his rookie campaign of 2001-02, when he split the season with three different teams. DeCecco spent parts of six seasons in the Western Hockey League, mostly in Seattle, where he erupted for 57 goals and 100 points in his draft year of 1998-99, after which the Buffalo Sabres selected him in the seventh round (206th overall).

Hutt signed with Peoria as a free agent December 3 after beginning the year in Canadian University for Wilfrid Laurier. His junior career included four full seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Belleville Bulls, where he registered 103 points (17g-86a). In 37 games for the Rivermen in his first pro season, the 6-0, 190-pound Hutt contributed six assists and a +4 rating.

The Aces (31-23-4) expect DeCecco and Hutt to arrive in Anchorage Friday and practice at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at Sullivan Arena. Alaska snapped its three-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 3-0 win over Bakersfield, bringing its magic number down to four as far as clinching a playoff spot.

The Aces take the weekend off and open a three-game series with Cincinnati Wednesday at home, then finish up its home schedule Friday and Saturday against the Cyclones. All three games start at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
