Pride Fall to Snakes
March 4, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC -- The Florence Pride lost a team-record fourth straight home game Thursday night, falling to the Columbus Cottonmouths 5-4.
The Pride had a 2-0 lead early in the second period, thanks to a pair of goals from Matt Reid. He scored his fifth goal of the season 10:18 into the opening period, and added his second tally of the night 5:49 into the second, just three seconds after a Pride power-play expired.
Columbus rallied to take the lead with three unanswered goals over the final 12 minutes of the second period, going ahead 3-2 on Matt Shasby's seventh of the season, coming with just seven seconds left in the period.
Florence pulled even just 1:29 into the final frame as Riku Rahikainen found the back of the net on a goal-mouth scramble for his first goal in a Pride sweter.
It took Columbus only 13 seconds to regain the lead as Brad Voth beat Sebastien Laplante for his fifth goal of the season at 1:42.
The Cottonmouths took a two-goal lead at 9:41 as Mitch Fritz got behind the Pride defense and beat Laplante for his first goal of the season.
The Pride made it a one-goal game against at 13:00 as Josh Piro one-timed a nifty Allan Sirois drop pass past Columbus goaltender Joel Martin for his second goal in three games with the Pride.
Martin shut the door after that, and the Pride fell to 22-29-7 on the season.
The Pride host the Greenboro Generals at 7:30 on Friday and the Charlotte Checkers at 2:30 on Sunday.
