Lynx Deal Naumenko To Charlotte For Futures

Augusta Lynx News Release

Looking to bolster their lineup for the final playoff stretch, and being well-endowed in the goaltending department, Augusta unloaded one of their two big name netminders Wednesday, sending Gregg Naumenko to the Charlotte Checkers for future considerations.

Naumenko came to Augusta after beginning the season in Russia, as well as a short stint in Fort Wayne of the United Hockey League. In 15 games with the Lynx, the Chicago, IL native had an 8-6-2 record along with a 3.09 GAA and .907 save percentage. The Lynx, meanwhile, will look to strengthen their roster from a list of future considerations for their playoff push, and beyond.

"We're looking to make our team better right now, as well as for next season," said Lynx Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Stan Drulia. "We had two number one goaltenders on this team, and it wasn't fair to either one to continue rotating them. Not only will this deal help the Lynx, but it's a good deal for Naumenko, too. Without him, we wouldn't be in a position to possibly make the playoffs at this point."

Naumenko is also looking forward to Charlotte.

"I'm hopeful that with the goaltending situation in the Rangers' organization, there might be a chance for me to move up at some point," he said. "Obviously you never know, but I think this is a good situation for me."

Augusta will continue their playoff charge this Thursday night at Pensacola, with game time starting at 8:05 pm Eastern Time. Then the Lynx will travel to Columbus to battle the Cottonmouths Saturday night at 7:30 pm. Catch all the exciting Lynx Hockey action on EAGLE 102!
