Zulianello acquired from Long Beach

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls acquired goaltender Colin Zulianello from the Long Beach Ice Dogs Tuesday in exchange for fellow netminder David Burleigh. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Zulianello, 25, joins the Gulls after playing in 31 games for the Ice Dogs this season, posting an 8-15-2 record with a 3.58 goals-against average and .882 save percentage.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 197-pound native of Charenton, France spent the 2002-03 season with the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers and Augusta Lynx. In 31 combined games with Charlotte and Augusta, Zulianello was 13-14-2 with a 3.17 GAA and .905 save percentage. He won ECHL Goalie of the Week honors twice last season with Augusta.

Zulianello began his professional career in 2001-02 with the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves after spending the previous four years at Colorado College. In 99 career games (95 in the ECHL and four in the American Hockey League), he is 39-43-5 with a 3.31 GAA and .899 save percentage. Zulianello has also racked up four career shutouts, one of which came against the Gulls earlier this season.

Burleigh, 23, appeared in 19 games for San Diego this season, posting a 10-6-0 record with a 2.63 GAA and .906 save percentage. The rookie netminder began the campaign in the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks' (AHL) training camp.

The 6-foot, 186-pounder from North Vancouver, British Columbia spent the last four years at Miami University (Ohio). Burleigh left Miami of Ohio with six career goaltending records: games played (134), minutes (7577:48), GAA (2.87), saves (2,975), wins (60) and shutouts (12). Last season, he set Miami of Ohio single-season records with four shutouts and a 2.42 GAA. Burleigh was named the school's Outstanding Defensive Player in 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2002-03.
