Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Burlington, VT- The Aberdeen IronBirds were shut out 6-0 by the Vermont Lake Monsters in the opening game of a three game series. Tad Gold picked up Aberdeen's first base hit with a bloop single to left field with two outs in the sixth inning. Jamill Moquete and Justin Viele added singles in the eighth and ninth innings respectively.

The Lake Monsters jumped on Aberdeen starter Tanner Chleborad in the first inning. Vermont sent seven batters to the plate and took a 3-0 lead on three hits and a pair of fielder's choice ground balls. Yairo Munoz, J.P. Sportman, and Jose Brizuela all scored for the hosts in the first inning.

Vermont doubled their lead in the third as they chased Chleborad from the game. Brizuela led off with an infield single, which was followed by a John Nogowski walk. Max Kuhn then hit an RBI double, scoring Brizuela. Chleborad intentionally walked Trent Gilbert to load the bases, but allowed an RBI single from Seung-min Kim and that was all for Chleborad. Nigel Nootbaar came on in relief of Chleborad and threw a wild pitch, which allowed a run to score, making it 6-0 Vermont.

Aberdeen got a walk and a base hit to lead off the ninth, but a strike out and two fly outs ended the game.

The IronBirds and Lake Monsters will do battle in the middle game of the series tomorrow night. First pitch from Centennial Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
