Long Night Ends in Defeat

The Aberdeen IronBirds fell 10-5 last night to the Jamestown Jammers in a game that took three hours, 29 minutes, the longest nine inning game of the season. The IronBirds held leads of 2-0 and 5-4, but the Jammers scored the game's final six runs off of IronBirds' relievers Nik Nowottnick, Matt Trowbridge, and Stefan Crichton. The IronBirds' bullpen tied a season high with seven walks issued. The Jammers had nine hits and eight of their ten runs scored were earned. Offensively for the IronBirds, Alex Murphy hit a single in the seventh inning, earning him a 12 game hitting streak. Jay Gonzalez had a walk and a single, and now has a five game hitting streak going.

All Aboard!

Following last night's loss, the IronBirds boarded a bus and traveled over night to Burlington, Vermont in advance of tonight's game. They left Ripken Stadium just before midnight and arrived in Burlington before 8 a.m. Following this three game set with the Vermont Lake Monsters, the IronBirds head to Norwich, Connecticut for three games against the Connecticut Tigers before the All-Star Break on Monday and Tuesday.

Grimes Throws A No Hitter

In three innings pitched last night, starter Matthew Grimes did not allow a hit. He allowed just two walks and rung up one strikeout. It was his second professional start after starting back on August 4th in Williamsport. As a starter this year, Grimes has a 1.50 ERA in six total innings, allowing two hits and two runs (one earned). Overall, he is 1-2 on the season with a 4.80 ERA in 15 innings pitched. He has allowed 10 hits, nine runs, and seven walks, ringing up eight strikeouts.

On the Mound Tonight...

RHP Tanner Chleborad will get the start for the IronBirds tonight. He is 1-1 on the season with a 1.25 ERA. In his last start, which came against the Vermont Lake Monsters back on August 6th, he allowed just two hits and a walk in four innings of work, striking out three. He has now pitched 21.2 innings this season, giving up just 20 hits, six runs and six walks, fanning nine. He was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 16th round of this year's draft out of Washington State. He will be opposed by Vermont's Dillon Overton, who will be making his second start for Vermont and second against the IronBirds.
