MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have hired Cheryl Abbott as their new Community Relations Director, Monarchs President Jeff Eisenberg announced today. Abbott replaces Rhonda Martin, who recently took a similar position with New Hampshire Special Olympics. "We are fortunate to have someone as talented as Cheryl join our staff," said Eisenberg. "Her experience and her familiarity with our community will be tremendous assets to the organization."
Abbott will oversee the Monarchs public presence and community involvement through the Monarchs Care Foundation, the Goals for Success program, the Monarchs DARE graduation program and several fundraising events. She will also oversee all mascot and player appearances, and handle requests for promotional items and donations.
Abbott comes to the Monarchs from Heritage United Way, where she served as the Associate Director of Resource Development and Director of Marketing, Communication and Special Events. Prior to that, she worked in the community relations department of Fleet Bank, where she managed multi-million dollar campaigns and charitable contributions, coordinated promotional activities and supervised statewide employee volunteer programs. While with Fleet Bank, she worked with high profile athletes such as Moe Vaughn of the Boston Red Sox, Cam Neely of the Boston Bruins and Antoine Walker of the Boston Celtics.
Abbott is a graduate of Hesser College in Manchester, New Hampshire, and she resides with her husband Michael and two children, Cameron and Courtney, in Weare, New Hampshire.
