January 3, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
PROVIDENCE, RI- The Providence Bruins went 4 for 6 on the power play to cruise by the Rochester Americans 5-2 and extend their home winning streak to 7 in a row. Three P-Bruins had multiple point nights, with Alexander Khokhlachev going 2-2-4, Austin Czarnik going 0-4-4, and Seth Griffith 0-3-3.
The P-Bruins went up early in the first period when Matt Irwin scored his third goal in three games when his powerful slap shot from the left point went bar down on Makarov. Khokhlachev and Czarnik were credited with the assists.
Jerome Leduc scored the next two goals for the Americans for his fifth and sixth goal of the season. The first was even strength assisted by Ellis and Schaller, the second a power play goal assisted by O'Reilly and Akeson.
Colton Hargrove evened the score 9:49 into the second period. Brandon DeFazio hustled to keep the puck in the offensive zone during an Amerks break out, then passed to Czarnik whose backhanded saucer pass found a wide open Hargrove on the left wing. Hargrove roofed it to tie the game at 2-2.
Three minutes later, Khokhlachev potted his first of the night on a 5v3 power play. Czarnik found Griffith down low who sent the puck across the crease to the tape of Khoklachev who one-timed it into the back of the net. The P-Bruins concluded the second period with a 3-2 lead and never let up.
The same three players combined for another power play goal 8:34 into the third period. Griffith, Czarnik, and Koko combined for some textbook tic-tac-toe passing, ending with Koko's low finisher over Marakov's reaching stick
Chris Casto put the dagger through the heart of Rochester when his snapshot from the right point found the back of the net high glove side. Griffith and Khokhlachev were credited with the assists for their 4th and 3rd respective points of the night.
Malcolm Subban looked solid between the pipes, turning away 27 of the 29 shots he faced over the course of 60 minutes.
The Providence Bruins are back home this Friday, January 8th against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The P-Bruins will be looking to extend their home streak to 8 games.
