BRIDGEPORT,Conn. - Dan Ellis made32 saves and Chris Bourque paced the Hershey Bears' offense with two goals, asthe visitors defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by a 5-0 score on Sundayevening at Webster Bank Arena.
The Bears drew first blood in this gameinside the final two minutes of the opening period. The duo of Nathan Walker and Garrett Mitchell combined on apretty two-on-one rush, which Mitchell finished with a backhander up and overgoaltender Stephon Williams at 18:33.
Chris Bourque made it a 2-0 game,striking on the Bears' second power play of the night. He unloaded a low slap shot that beatWilliams low to the glove side at 11:56 of the middle period.
Sean Collins then added to the lead,backhanding a shot into a virtually empty net after Dustin Gazley forced a turnoverat the left circle. Collins nettedhis seventh goal of the season at 14:11 for the 3-0 advantage.
In the third, Travis Boyd blocked ashot from a Sound Tigers blueliner and turned it into a breakaway pass forBourque, who skated in and deked Williams to the backhand at 1:18 for a 4-0lead.
Bridgeport's defense would make anill-advised line change late in the period while the Bears had possession, andGazley would catch up to a Caleb Herbert pass high in the Sound Tigers'end. Williams came out to knockthe puck away but Gazley beat him, and deposited a shot into an unguarded netat 17:12 to round out the scoring.
Ellis won his second straight game andimproved to 10-5-2 on the season, posting his second shutout as well. Williams turned away 27 of 32 Hersheyshots and dropped to 7-8-0. TheBears finished 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Bears hit the road to take on the RochesterAmericans on Friday, January 8. Face-off from Blue Cross Arena is slated for 7:05 PM.
